SafeWork investigates 12m steel beam fall

SAFEWORK South Australia is investigating a site on the corner of King William and Gilles Street in Adelaide after a steel beam fell 12 metres to the ground.

The steel beam had been in a sling above the ground when it fell out just after 10am local time on 29 August 2008. No one was injured in the incident.

According to the workplace safety authority, early results of the investigation seem to indicate the sling failed.

The beam damaged the superstructure on the way down, and this will need to be assessed and worked on until it is safe.
