Safety ensured by replacing methanol in consumables

Methanol is risky in fast-moving industries because it is highly flammable and any leaks of gas or spills of liquid can readily form flammable mixtures at temperature at or above flash point.MARKEM-IMAJE says it is replacing the methanol with propan-2-ol in their coding consumables, in order to ensure safety.

The company hopes by making all their inks and solvents methanol-free, it can reduce the risks of fire and leaks. Some fast moving fluids have already been rendered methanol-free, with the rest to be transitioned by September 2008.
