MEMBERS of the Australian Workers Union (AWU) who are working for the Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE) must not work alone.
The ban on solo work was instituted by the AWU after an incident in which a DSE worker was pinned beneath a tractor for five hours with broken ribs and vertebra.
According to the union, the DSE only realised there was a problem when the worker’s wife raised an alarm.
The AWU expressed anger at the negligence of the department and placed the ban during a mass meeting of its members.
