Submissions to compensation act review close soon

VICTORIANS are invited to discuss and put forward their submissions to the Review of the Accident Compensation Act.
According to Peter Hanks QC, the independent review of the 1985 Victorian Accident Compensation Act and associated legislation started in December 2007, aiming to update and streamline the law.
The Act regulates the operation of the Victorian workers’ compensation scheme. The Review would simplify the scheme for both employers and workers, and aim to enhance return to work rates, workplace health and safety incentives, and improve the efficiency of benefit delivery to injured workers.
A public discussion paper was released on 11 March 2008 which asked the public a number of questions regarding issues to do with the operation of the compensation scheme. The Review’s final report is due in the second half of 2008. Public submissions close at the end of business day on 2 May 2008.
Submissions should be sent via email.
