Trial for alleged safety breaches

SOUTH Gippsland company We Fix M will stand trial in the County Court on workplace health and safety charges. The company is charged with not providing and maintaining a safe work environment.

According to WorkSafe Victoria, the company, trading as Inverloch Motor Body Works, reserved its plea at the Latrobe Valley Magistrate’s Court on 8 January.

The charges came after a customer died on the company’s premises on 17 January 2007. A hoist holding a tandem trailer had collapsed on the man at the Bear St shop at Inverloch.

Although no one saw the incident, people at the scene said they saw the man with his hands near the rear axle of the trailer just before it fell.

A case conference has been scheduled for 26 May at the Latrobe Valley County Court, Morwell.
