SUNSET Coast Water has won a safety award for its risk management system credited with helping achieve 450,000 hours worked with no lost time or medical treatment injuries.

The wastewater company took out the 2008 ExxonMobil Award for Excellence in Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) at the annual National Safety Awards of Excellence.

The 140-strong business is an alliance of wastewater experts from four partner companies.

Its risk management system was developed by benchmarking the individual safety systems of John Holland, Worley Parsons, Kellogg Brown and Root and Water Corporation

This approach benefited by cascading the advantages from each of the safety systems, which have been used to induct more than 2000 people over the four companies.

According to the award organisers, the National Safety Council of Australia (NSCA), the win is impressive given the relatively small workforce employed by the company.
