WorkSafe Victoria claims first-class safety
WORKSAFE Victoria has released its operational results for the 2007/2008 financial year.
According to the authority, its package of safe workplaces, low premiums and benefits for injured workers means Victoria is at the forefront of workplace safety in Australia.
In the reported period, the state had less than 30,000 workplace injury claims, at a record low rate of 11.11 per 1000 workers, down from 11.32 claims per 1000 workers.
The workplace fatalities for the state were halved from the previous year, at 16. Premium rates are at 1.387%, which is 20% less than that of NSW and less than half the rate of South Australia.
Global financial markets meant WorkSafe suffered a net loss of $587m in the 2007/2008 period. It said this figure was not a key measure of performance however.
