The authorised contractor was working for Alinta Gas Networks www.alinta.net.au at Cloverdale. According to investigations, he uncovered an underground gas main in preparation to disconnect a gas service to enable the demolition of a house.
However, the gas service became dislodged from the main, allowing gas to escape. The worker was overcome by the gas.
Safety inspectors were on site soon after and will interview witnesses and investigate the circumstances of the incident. According to EnergySafety, it investigates electricity and gas injuries in the WA to prevent future incidents of the same nature.
