Workplace health programs can increase productivity

Statistics from the company show healthy employees have nearly three times the productivity of unhealthy colleagues, while employees with poor health take up to nine times more sick leave than healthy workers.
The ageing population means the risk of developing multiple health conditions is at a constant increase. The mirrored trend in workplaces means proactive employers will introduce schemes to lift workers’ health.
The company claims organisations need to put the ‘health’ back into occupational health and safety. Employers should conduct a strong needs-based assessment when planning for an effective health program.
These programs can improve fitness, reduce weight and help employees quit smoking. The company cites figures based on analysis of 14 health programs which showed reductions in absenteeism of between 12 and 36%.
The company will be detailing the steps for implementing a successful workplace health program during the WA Safety Conference on 14 August.
