New OHS regulations coming into effect

The new regulation will enforce the national occupational health and safety standards in relation to noise and working in confined spaces.THE Occupational Health and Safety (General) Regulation 2007 will come into force in the ACT on 26 May 2008.
The regulation will deal with a range of issues, including for risk control, training for health and safety representatives, reporting of and record keeping in relation to dangerous occurrences at the workplace, and for particular duties and safety measures that relate to the management at workplaces of issues such as entry and exit from the workplace.
It will also cover the use of personal protective and safety equipment; the prevention of falls; safe surfaces and floors; noise, and the risk of hearing impairment, and emergency procedures in the workplace.
The new regulation will enforce the national occupational health and safety standards in relation to noise and working in confined spaces.
The ACT OHS Commissioner has partnered with the Office of Regulatory Services and the Chief Minister to present seminars on the new OHS regulations. The presentation will explain the important features of the new laws.
The seminars will be held on 15 May and 19 May 2008 at 10am at the Pilgrim House in Canberra.
