Queensland shares mine safety expertise

ACCORDING to the Queensland Mines and Energy Minister, the state’s Safety in Mines Testing and Research Station (Simtars) is sharing its mining safety knowledge with the rest of the world.

North America, China and Brazil are some of the mine producing nations which have taken expert advice from the research station during top level safety talks in Nevada.

Simtars researchers shared their knowledge of mine fires and underground explosions at the event. They provided information on oxygen deficiencies in underground coal mines, spontaneous combustion, gas monitoring and ways to prevent mine fires.

Of course, the information exchange is two-way, with Simtars also collaborating with other countries to learn from overseas experience and improve the safety of local miners.
