New Zealand miner to install vehicle simulators

NEW Zealand-based Doug Hood Mining says it will enhance its safety training by using a range of Advanced Equipment (AE) Simulators from Immersive Technologies.

The company purchased two base simulators and three modules based on the Caterpillar 777D Truck, Hitachi EX2500-5 Shovel and Light Vehicle, as well as two training packages.

It hopes the technology will also help reduce unscheduled maintenance and extend tyre life.

The simulators, to be located at the Stockton opencast coal mine, will also help with pre-employment reviews, inductions, and re-assessments.
