SAFE Work Australia Council has released a number of draft documents regarding hazardous chemicals in the workplace.

In July 2009, Safe Work Australia Council agreed to use the Draft National Standard for the Control of Workplace Hazardous Chemicals as the policy basis for new model OHS regulations for workplace chemicals.

Safe Work Australia says it will start drafting model regulations for workplace chemicals based on the National Standard for the Control of Workplace Hazardous Chemicals.

Safe Work Australia has also developed additional regulatory material, namely a Draft National Code of Practice for the Labelling of Workplace Hazardous Chemicals, and a Draft National Code of Practice for the Preparation of Safety Data Sheets.

These draft documents were released on 31 July 2009, and Safe Work Australia is now seeking comments for these by 18 September 2009. The comments will be instrumental to the finalisation of the Codes of Practice.

Comments should be made using the Microsoft Word document template, and emailed to Safe Work Australia.
