WORKSAFE WA says it will conduct an inspection program of construction sites in the mid-west area of the state during the week starting 8 June 2009.

Three WorkSafe WA inspectors will conduct around 50 construction site inspections in the region, including Geraldton and surrounding areas. The inspectors will take a general look at the sites, but will also concentrate on specific areas.

WorkSafe WA hopes the campaign will help raise awareness of hazards in the construction industry, and remind those involved in the industry of their responsibilities in minimising the risk of injury.

Inspectors will check that workers on construction sites have undergone the compulsory Construction Safety Awareness Training and hold current and valid blue cards, and that Safe Work Method Statements are in place for high risk construction work.

Inspectors will also be taking a close look at scaffolding and paying close attention to electrical safety and safe work at heights.
