Easy Guides not to be used in isolation for training

WORKPLACE Health and Safety Queensland has released a clarification of its stance on the use of Easy Guides and other workplace health and safety training materials.

At the end of October 2008, the authority had expressed concern regarding Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) becoming overly reliant on Easy Guides material as a training tool without reference to official learning outcomes.

According to the authority, Easy Guides publications should be used as training material but not in isolation. They should be used with other supporting documents and materials, and training should involve both theory and practical training.

These supporting documents and materials include a lesson plan set out in elements with learning points for each element identified, physical learning materials and tools, visual learning tools, and the use of relevant plant and equipment.
